“The Tough”

You’ve likely heard: “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”

My grandmother has a keychain which says: “When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping.”

From my corner of the world, here’s what “the tough” does in the midst of all the “going”:

“The tough” try to work extra hours or get done with the to-do list extra fast for time to work on homework or do those little things that have yet to find a place in the schedule. Some success is met with this, however, more of life creeps in and little time is left for important things such as sleep and cooking decent meals.

“The tough” try rather hard to get applications in much ahead of the deadline, yet still manage to get in all required paperwork with only two hours, rather than two days, to spare. Even with said two hour buffer, there is still a short-lived freak out session centered around, “What if I fail or am rejected?”

“The tough” is rather ticked at her Physiology teacher for having unclear questions on a lab assignment, along with there being 13 questions and at review  of the syllabus, can only see that all this work is worth 8 points. “The tough” decided to make brownies. Yummy ones.

“The tough” is thankful that school and sleep are the hardest things in life right now and expectantly waits for the end of the semester. She anticipates a lovely day in the near future with a restful night’s sleep and nap accompanied by 3 nutritious meals. “The tough” is thankful for friends with whom she doesn’t have to put on the strong-and-tough act and pretend that life is rosy. For heaven’s sake, it’s Lent!!

“The tough” could use a shoulder massage and a lot less “going”.
